She jumped across to where she belonged. She had realised a long time ago when she was in a far away land, that the people she felt at home with there were fellow Europeans. She knew then that speaking the same language was far less important than deep underlying European values and history they shared. Maybe people need to travel to know this. Again she feels the same understanding but this time it is a painful severing rather than a comfort.
