The river

The English Countess is telling her of a dream she had about a river. In the dream there is a swimming pool but some of the children want to play in the river. She is worried as the river is dangerous, it has a strong current and weeds that can drag the children down. The swimming pool is clear, clean and controlled, you can see all the way to the bottom.  But the river is different, it is headstrong, unfathomable, relentless Nature and it can be treacherous.
